Although my information is far from complete, I know for a fact that the De Vall family, from about 1775 onward, owned plantations called "Ashland" and "Orange Grove" in West Baton Rouge Parish. In the 1850's the family chief may have been John Tabor De Vall, though, perhaps, he was in the generation just following. There was a Richard De Vall (son of William) in the early part of the 19th century who donated land in the old market square of Baton Rouge, part of which is now the present-day site of St. Joseph's Cathedral. There was also a prominent family member, Lt. Colonel David De Vall who fought in the Civil War and in whose honor the present-day High School in Chamberlain (Devalltown), Louisiana, was named. I hope this information helps a little! Best regards....Valerian
