My great grandfather married Emeline Barker Devol July 2, 1868. And like you I was also looking for the Devol name, when I stumbled upon a third cousin (once removed) in Marietta, Ohio. His name was Jerry Devol and he sent me every thing on the very first Devol that came to the U.S. on Aug. 3, 1640. His name was:
William Devol
b. 1638 in Spalding, Linconshire, England
d. 1680 in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
m. August 29, 1639
to:
Isabel Anderson
William's grandson Joseph Devol married Mary Soule July30, 1695, Mary Soule is the grand-daughter of George Soule who came over on the Mayflower. George Soule was one of the men who signed the Mayflower Compact.
I have alot of information on the Devol family. Let me know if you would like me to e-mail this information to you.
Chris
