hello darla, i will try to answer you point by point. the four duvall's in va. are not the father of capt. lewis duvall of laurens co. s.c. the four brother thing can be laid to rest. there are a number of different lines of duvalls. 12 out of south and north carolina. one out of maryland and one out of va. as well as the canadian duvals out of new york. unfortently, because of the small amount of avabile information about the south carolina duvalls. they have been subject to a lot of wishful guess work. after 35 years of work i have no idea who is the father of capt. lewis duvall or where he is from. the first record we have of him is in 1770 where he takes up or buy the rights to a land grant on duncan creek i 96 dist. later laurens co. the grant says duncan creek is 6 ft. wide and 6 in deep. it is still that to day. i measered it my self.at this time we have 27 names or census slots as possable children of capt. lewis duvall. they are probly more. if the truth is ever known your lewis duvall of clinton co. ky. will be a grandson. i desend from james duvall born c1790 in laurens co. s.c. and lived all his life there on a farm on duncans creek about 1/2 mile down the creek from the origenal capt. lewis duvall homestead. he is living in 1810 beside a betsy duvall. some say this is capt. lewis duvalls wife and children, no proof. we do not know if capt. lewis duvall bought this land and placed his family on it before he left for ill. no deed to this property has ever been found. if this riddle is ever to be solved we must work from fact, not guess work. there already is guess work spread around that some folks are taking as fact. for now, joe duvall.
