My records, drawn from a number of sources, indicate that Jacob Duvall who married Elizabeth Ricketts in Nelson County in June 1802 is the son of John Miles Duvall. Only three of his children have been documented by primary sources. Others have been placed by inference and process of elimination, including my ancestor, Mary (Polly) Duvall who married John Sebastian Shehan.

Family tradition says that John Miles Duvall, his wife Anne Roselle Philomena Tarleton (Anarpy), and their seven children began the voyage to Kentucky in company with other families from Maryland. John Miles was swept overboard and drowned, some say in the Potomac River. Anarpy and her children continued on to Nelson County. Some researchers attribute more than seven children to the couple. This might be correct.

Anarpy Duvall married again to Benjamin Loan/Lone, and they had one child, Ann, who married Joseph Rogers.

I am in the process of revising my Duvall information, but when I complete it, I will be glad to share.

Bena Taylor Kirkscey
