Duval, William Pope (1784-1854) Born in Virginia, 1784. Democrat. U.S. Representative from Kentucky at-large, 1813-15; Judge of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Florida, 1821-22; Governor of Florida Territory, 1822-34; member of Florida state senate, 1839-42. Was the model for Washington Irving's character "Ralph Ringwood" and James K. Paulding's character "Nimrod Wildfire". Died in Washington, D.C., March 19, 1854. Interment at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Duval County, Fla. is named for him. See also: congressional biography.
Duval, Isaac Harding (1824-1902) -- also known as Isaac H. Duval -- of Wellsburg, Brooke County, W.Va. Born in Wellsburg, Brooke County, Va. (now W.Va.), September 1, 1824. Republican. Went to California for the 1849 Gold Rush; general in the Union Army during the Civil War; member of West Virginia state senate 1st District, 1866-67; U.S. Representative from West Virginia 1st District, 1869-71; member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Brooke County, 1887-89. Died in Wellsburg, Brooke County, W.Va., July 10, 1902. Interment at Brooke Cemetery, Wellsburg, W.Va. See also: congressional biography.
