Jana, I was going over some information about Richard in Ezekiel Duty's manuscript and I see he notes one of Richard's sons as 'George' was believed to have moved to Tennessee and at sometime I noted that a George Duty died in Sumner Co. Tn around 1821. I can't remember where I found that. Did your William H Duty have 4 brothers...George, Joseph, Matthew and Richard? Just curious as George and Joseph were part of Austin's original 300 and I know a Matthew Duty is buried beside Joseph in Webberville, Tx. Richard, I believe died in east Texas. George skipped out on the Battle of San Jacinto (too sick too fight)..Anyway, I have found a couple of references to the 5 Duty brothers. E.Z. did visit Texas when he was compiling info and notes that the names of William Duty and Joseph Duty appear on the list of taxpayers for Bastrp Co. for the year 1838. Ezekiel was my grandfather's brother, thus my great uncle and when he began compiling information on the Duty family, primarily his lineage. The Southern Branch data is of course not the holy grail, it was the place where he was able to begin compiling data. From June 1949 to March 25, 1953, E.Z. complied this data from many sources, letters, visits, traveling the country, old family bibles, stories. And then he typed 2 copies, one of which he gave my grandfather. I have that original, but work from a copy I had kinko's so gently reproduce. Our lineage according to Ezekiel goes back to William Duty of Chatham Co., NC. William Duty Thomas Duty Russell Duty Isaiah Duty John Hammond Duty (Ezekiel's father) Daniel Morgan Duty Daniel Morgan Duty, Jr. Laurie Anne Duty (me) Sarah Ellen Thompson-Duty I thank you for your time and would like to hear back from you regarding the 5 Duty brothers of Texas!
