Dear Terry,
Following on my reply sent earlier today regarding Eleanor (Duryea) Eddy and her father David Duryea, I have found that I had a follow-up email from Ms. Walker regarding what I propose to be your family group. In this email, we see that there was a David Duryea in Old Saybrook and that he died in 1851 at age 49, thus born in 1802.

Perhaps it means that his father was a George Duryea?
The entry from the source discussed by FireSong contains the name George in parenthesis and I do not know what that indicates. Perhaps it means that his father was a George Duryea? It appears as though this David Duryea had married Harriet, who might then be the mother of your Eleanor. This remains to be seen, of course, and I do not want to get too speculative. To reiterate, this excursion into Old Saybrook is based upon the statement by Eleanor's son that she was from Old Saybrook--while, as you note, she herself states she is from New York. In my previous post I had noted that there was a Mary E. Duryea, also from New York, who had married a Gilbert Busnell, from Saybrook, during our era of interest. I cannot help but feel, however, that we are "getting warm" in pursuing this.

I will say in advance that there are several of these, particularly in the Oyster Bay, Long Island area. This is where I will look next.
