Dear Terry, Thank you for the additional information on Eleanor, daughter of David Duryea. I'm finding it tough to get the Davids straight and I cannot tell if these are descendants of Joost Duryea or of Jan Durie. However, your mention of Eleanor's son stating that she was born in Old Saybrook might link your ancestress with another Duryea, which, in turn, may help us both to eventually figure this out. On another list I had posted a query concerning a Bushnell/Duryea couple and had a reply which is appended here. I have not made the time to pursue this, but perhaps you can focus on the possible connections better than I at the moment? It might be important to keep in mind the the first name Eleanor might have been a change from either Helena (Elena, Eleanor), or Cornelia (Nelly, Eleanor). This might not have happened at all, of course, but did happen frequently enough in that era that it is worth mentioning. I want to note for you that the book you had accessed at the NYG&B Library was the subject of my reply in this Forum on 1 July 99 to Mr. Felch. This is the reply I had on the Bushnell-Duryea marriage: "According to "Vital Records of Saybrook Colony" pg 140 1849. Feby 5th Gilbert E Bushnell of Westbrook to Mary E Duryea of this pg 166 Date: Feb 5,1849 FS > -----Original Message-----
