Dear Burt (if I may),
Your query has demanded additional study of this family group as I now see two different Rebecca Duryea's married to Robert Doughty. These separate Rebeccas are a generation apart, but of the same family line --at least that is the way it appears at this time.
I am studying anew these evidences because of your query and cannot see another (easy) explanation other than that Robert Doughty married twice, first to Rebecca Duryea, daughter of Wilhelmus Duryee and second to Rebecca Duryea, daughter of Cornelius Duryee, son of the just mentioned Wilhelmus.
This would be extremely unusual, even among the cousin-marrying New York Dutch and their overlapping familial alliances recurrent on Long Island during this time frame--as evidenced within this specific Duryee line in other ways. But it might explain your study's difficulties and concurrently relieve me of the present dilemma that I now realize is engendered in extant records (as presently collected).
I have not yet tried to address this problem through the census records and this now seems a very necessary endeavor, as you have tried to accomplish. But, feel this might be the best hope for sorting through the apparent contradictions.
Please feel free to contact me privately to further explore this group of descendants at [email protected].
