Duryea Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Richard,Many thanks for the quick response and information. You have brought up some interesting points to ponder, some questions that I had myself, which is the reason why I posted a message! My genealogy research is aimed at the Wolcott Family of NJ & 99% of the info I have obtained comes from a John B. Wolcott, registrar of the Wolcott Society, and two very reliable Monmouth County NJ genealogists, who do "work" for USGenWeb. The Monmouth County researchers list Hannah's birthdate as April 1805, marriage date as August 31, 1837, Brooklyn and death date as 1891, Brooklyn. John B.'s database (referring to Jacob Robbins Wolcott) says: "...m. Hannah B. Daryea. 1840-1850 Brooklyn NY" Does this mean Jacob was only married to Hannah FROM 1840-1850, or GOT married between 1840-1850? What started me on the road to confusion was finding the 1850 Federal Census info for Jacob Robbins Wolcott, Kings County, Brooklyn, 3rd Ward: House 703, family 868 Jacob R. Wolcott, 39, male, occupation: Livery Stable, b. NY Hannah, 39, female, b. NY Geo D., 12, male, b. NY, attended school within the year Amelia E., 10, female, b. NY (same school note) Wm K, 8, male, b. NY (same school note) Also, researcher's note indicates that William's middle initial might be "H" Obviously, one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to do simple math, but if Hannah is listed here as 39 years of age in 1850, then her 1805 birthdate in my records is wrong. So, do we have two Hannah Duryeas? Interestingly enough, I just this morning e-mailed two of the three researchers asking where they got their Hannah info. Of the above mentioned children of Hannah and Jacob, George D (Duryea) Wolcott is my husband's direct line: b. 1838 NYC, d. Nov. 18, 1900, NYC; m. Elizabeth Coe, b. 1843, NYC, d. 1914, Chatham, NJ; both buried Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn I'll just keep plugging along and maybe something will turn up to unravel this confusion! Thanks for past help and possibly future help. Sharon Smith
