Dear Pat,
Regarding Joseph Duryee, of the 24th NY (Rocket) Battery, and his wife Alice, the CW pension files cited earlier fail to mention their residing in New York City for a time. This is from the 1880 federal census:
Census Place: New York, New York, New York
Source: FHL Film 1254891National Archives Film T9-0891Page 91D
Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birth
Joseph DURYEA Self MM W 37 NY Occ: Stove Moulder Fa: NY Mo: NY
Alice DURYEA wife FM W 31 NY Occ: Keeping House Fa: NY Mo: NY
Joseph DURYEA Son MS W 7NY Occ: School Fa: NY Mo: NY
William DURYEASon MS W 3NY Occ: Home Fa: NY Mo: NY
F. S. LAWRENCE Other MS W 34 MASS Occ: Rr Conductor Fa: MA Mo: MASS
Egbert JOHNSON Other MS W 27 NY Occ:Rr Conductor Fa: NY Mo: NY

Thus, we can add another son, William Duryea, besides the Joseph, Jr. of previous mention.
Richard
