Dear Pat,

Regarding Joseph Duryee, of the 24th NY (Rocket) Battery, and his wife Alice, the CW pension files cited earlier fail to mention their residing in New York City for a time. This is from the 1880 federal census:

Census Place:       New York, New York, New York

Joseph DURYEA       Self        M M        W       37 NY       Occ:       Stove Moulder       Fa: NY       Mo: NY

Alice DURYEA       wife        F M        W       31 NY       Occ:       Keeping House       Fa: NY       Mo: NY

Joseph DURYEA       Son        M S        W       7 NY       Occ:       School              Fa: NY       Mo: NY

William DURYEA Son        M S        W       3 NY       Occ:       Home              Fa: NY       Mo: NY

F. S. LAWRENCE       Other       M S        W       34 MASS       Occ:       Rr Conductor       Fa: MA Mo: MASS

Egbert JOHNSON       Other       M S        W       27 NY       Occ: Rr Conductor       Fa: NY       Mo: NY

Thus, we can add another son, William Duryea, besides the Joseph, Jr. of previous mention.

Richard
