Thank you for your reply.
I actually got a letter about the LDS containing a different branch, so I searched for the Eyres and Duryeas as well.
I found three women named Letty Jane Duryea.
One was born Nov 3, 1879 in Greenbury, Westchester County, NY, dtr of Stephen Cornell Duryea and Mary Ann Evanshearer. Also born to Stephen and Mary were eleven children, including Abraham Brewer Duryea, my g-g-g-grandfather.
Alfred DeCiplet Eyre married Letty Jane Duryea on June 19, 1868.They had a dtr named Letty Jane in Feb 1876 (Fed Census 1900), and many other children.
On the 1900 federal census, Alfred Eyre is enumerated with his wife, Mary, several Eyre children, and three Duryea "step-children".In the "years married" column, Alfred's has "32" crossed out and "10" written above it.Mary has "10".
My grandmother says that George Eyre was Abraham Duryea's half-brother, and that they ran a cleaning business in Jersey City.I find Alfred G Eyre on the census and in the directories, so this could be George.
My theory is that Mary Ann Evanshearer-Duryea married her husband's relative's husband.I would theorize that Letty Jane Duryea (first wife of Alfred Eyre) and Stephen Cornell Duryea could have been siblings.Various sources lead me to conclude that they were born in NY.I haven't done much NY searching yet, as I am in NJ and still have plenty of NJ research to do on them. The Cornell in Stephen's name could be a last name. The Brewer in Abraham's name is a family last name, according to my grandmother. She says that the Duryeas, Brewers, and Cummins (Abraham married Nellie Cummins/Cummings) are buried in "Brewer's field", but she can't remember where this is.
At least I have more info to provide you with now.My grandmother also says that "Seven Duryea brothers came over with Lafayette."I haven't trace back that far yet.
Thank you again for your interest.
