Dear Cathie, I'm continuing to look for possible signs of your Duryea family and offer this potential family group: John Lewis Duryea, son of Whitehead Duryea and Clara Marie (____), of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, date of birth not discovered, died 5 December 1905, leaving a will dated 12 October 1887 and probated 30 March 1906. In this instrument, John Lewis Duryea, stating that he lives in the Village and Town of Flushing, names his wife Deborah A., sons William(7) M. Duryea and Frank(7) L. Duryea, and grandchildren Grace(8) Duryea and Clarence(8) Duryea. The Duryea vertical file at the Long Island Room of the Jamaica Public Library, Queens, LI, state that William(7) M. Duryea died 27 April 1888 and Frank(7) L. Duryea died 20 June 1900. This is all I have yet been able to assemble on this family and one cannot tell whether the Grace Duryea mentioned in her grandfather Duryea's will was a daughter of Frank L. Duryea. As you can see, a lot of time went by between the execution of John Lewis Duryea's will and its probate and it appears that both sons Frank and William were apparently dead when that will was probated. This might indicate that other grandchildren had been born after this Grace Duryea who were never included (named) in the will. Other children born to Whitehead Duryea and his wife Clara Marie are buried in the Propect Cemetery in Jamaica, but I do not know whether this family, ie, Frank Lewis Duryea and his family (if he had one) are buried at Prospect. It might be useful to try to locate the will of Clara Marie (____) Duryea, widow of Whitehead Duryea, to see if perhaps she mentions other grandchildren. Richard
