Revolutionary War Public Service Claims as noted in The Van Hook Family book is:
"Joel Durrett, Caroline Co., Court Booklet P. 10, Certificate I, Comm. Book I, p. 247.
" " Caroline Co., Nov 1781 Beef 250 lbs. Fras. Tompkins 4 pounds for man collecting beeves Oct. 15, man collecting beeves 250, 2 pounds. 12.1.
" " I U. S. Warrant for beef and his service collecting beef 6 Pds. 18. II.
" " P. 247, Certificate I have received for public use, of Joel Durrett I beef adjudged to weigh 250 lbs. 15 Oct. 1781"

He is mentioned in the DAR Patriot Index - Volume I "DURRETT, Joel b: c1749 VA d a 9-26-1814 m (1) Sarah Chewning PS VA" (PS = Patriotic Service)

I do not have copies. I had another note that stated the "Commissioner's book (S) recorded the date payment was authorized, the name of the claimant, and a description of the property."
Also: "During its session begun in May1780 the General Assembly passed an act authorizing the governor to impress supplies needed by the American army. The governor appointed commissioners of the provision law in each locality to carry out the terms of the act. The commissioner, when he impressed property, gave the owner a certificate describing what was taken. Between 1781 and 1783 county courts held special sessions at which certificates were presented and authenticated, and booklets listing authenticated certificates were compiled and sent to Richmond for settlement. Two commissioners appointed to settle the claims recorded those for which they authorized payment, and warrants were issued y the auditor of public accounts. These records are pat of Auditor of Public Accounts. Administration of State Government: Military Expenditures - Public Claims. Impressed Property Claims and are housed in the Library of Virginia."
