St. Francois du Lac is on the south side of the St. Lawrence River. The St. Francois River was a main traveling route for the Abenaki Indians and they traded at a French fort in St. Francois du Lac. It certainly was a long route by canoe and on foot from Maine through Quebec to the St. Lawrence. This Abenaki village is located today near Nicolet, Quebec or Three Rivers (Trois Rivieres). There is presently an indian village and fort that you can visit. It has an interpretive center.
