David,
Thanks a geat deal for coming back to me. This is indeed my family line, and I have already learned something, i.e., my gggfather's and gggmother's names, as I could go back no further than my father's "Granda Joe". I neglected to mention that my own father is Maurice, now 80, and he has four sons whom he named after himself and his three brothers.
I am now living in the south of England, altho' I lived in Scotland, on the Ayrshire coast, for the first 30 years of my life, and where my grandfather Thomas moved in 1919 when he left the British army after WW1.
I would love to know more, and plan one day to visit Dunfanaghy - have you ever been there ?
P.S. an old family story goes that the Durnings in Donegal could trace ancestry back to Spanish sailors shipwrecked on the coast after the Armada, which must have been in 1588-1589 - have you ever heard such a story ?
Joe
