Caroline,
Greetings from deepest France. I am really pleased that you got back to me so soon.

I would love a copy of the marriage certificate. Do you have any photos of any of these ancestors? I have none of any of mine. My own dad (son of Martin who was Elizabeth’s elder brother) died in 1963 and had none. I would so love to have anything like that. The scant info I have on Mary is that she might have been baptised in Dec. 1850 in Kilbride, near Swin(e)ford but the parents I have for her are James D. and Mary Johnston! Then there’s another Mary, baptised in Jun. 1850, the parents I have for her are John D. and Nappy Healy!!!

So far I have done a very basic family tree – only the main branches, i.e. brothers, sisters, parents; I’ve not yet done who married whom and their children. That’s a future task and no doubt you’ve done loads of that.

I have photos of the area in Bfd. they lived in; the streets are all still there, though no longer as houses, as well as St. Anne’s church and school. Earlier this year, in June, my wife and I went over to Connemara and managed a very quick trip up to Mayo ancestor-hunting. I might have found the little hamlet (perhaps only 6 houses) Thomas came from – Cloontubbrid just outside Swinford. I took lots of photos. Using info from the Griffith’s evaluation (1850s) I found stacks of Linskeys all around there and Castlebar. There were also a great number of Durkins all in that area. Unfortunately, the Ireland side is very difficult and will need time spent in Mayo and Dublin.

We went up to Killasser cemetery, a beautiful, quiet and peaceful spot with many graves, lots of broken ones. We managed to find one Lynskey which we photoed and I recall that there were a lot of Durkins/Durcans.

Anyway, that’s enough for the moment. We return to Yorkshire next week and I’m going to continue my searches – they are addictive, n’est-ce pas?

Please keep in touch.
John L.
