MW 12 Michigan Michigan Michigan son WWI Draft Registration shows Stephen Champlin Durham Jr. b. June 4, 1893 living Osceola, Michigan - Michigan birth records list parents as Stephen and Julia Durham - Michigan Marriage records list parents as Stephen Durham and Julia Long Julia's name is also shown as Long (not DeLong) on her marriage to Stephen Durham. She lists her father as Nelson Long and mother as unknown. She is a witness to the marriage of William Long (her brother) and William lists his parents as Nelson Long and Nancy Morrison. Nelson Alexander Long was living in Lamont, Ottawa Co. Michigan when he filed for his civil war pension. (The pension was denied as Nelson died before the paperwork was completed.) Nelson married first, Mary Little, August 25, 1835 in Chatham, Quebec, Canada and they had one daughter, Ellen, who married Minott Shutes. Nelson married (probably 2nd) Nancy Morrison. Nelson is listed in the 1884 State Census of Lamont, Ottawa Co. Michigan as divorced and he died that same year. Nelson Long was the son of William Long and Abigail Smith and the grandson of Zachariah Long and Susannah Borden. Nelson listed Canada as his place of birth in the 1850 Census, but subsequently listed it as New York. He was also inconsistent in giving his age. It is known that his grandfather, Zachariah Long, was living in Litchield, Litchfield Co. Connecticut when he moved to Rutland Co. Vermont. From there he moved to Plattsburgh, New York and from there to Prescott Co. Ontario where he died in 1829. Zachariah's son, William, moved from Prescott Co. Ontario to Chatham, Quebec, and William's children spread into Hastings Co. Ontario, New York, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I have more on the Long history if you are interested.
