DURFEE was born in Massachusetts, July 29th, 1826, and came to Middlebury, NY, in 1831. He is a leading farmer, owns three hundred and twenty acres of land and has been prominetly indentified with the best interests of the town. His father, Thomas Durfee, was born in 1804, and brought his family to the town at the date above given. He owned at one time nearly four hundred acres of land in the States of New York and Michigan. He was supervisor and held other town offices. Mr. Durfee's grandmother lived in Rhode Island during the Revolutionary War. One day, when she was about twelve years old, some British officers entered the house, and in a scuffle which she ensued, she was thrown on her face and her nose was broken by the concussion. ********************************************************** I have no further information on this family.
