I'm looking for information on the OTHO DURF FAMILY listed in the 1850 Frederick Co, MD census. Father: OTHO 42, mother: MARGERET 40, children: MARTHA 18, SUSAN 17, JAMES 12, JOHN 9, ELIZABETH 6, AGUSTUS 4, JACOB 2. All were born in Maryland. My line descends from MARTHA DURFF m: STEPHEN B LOW(LOWE). Can anyone tell me why they spelled their name Durf & Durff rather the Durfee spelling? Thanks.
