Funeral Services for retired Master Sgt. Durbin will be held Friday, June 24th at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Minister Mike Jakaitis, Rochester, officiating. Full military rites are being accorded by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Family and friends are invited to the Rochester Christian Church after the service to share memories.
Master Sgt. Durbin died January 17, 2011 at his home in Lawton, OK. He was born on September 19, 1964 in Urbana, IL to Edward and Pauline Copeland Durbin. He grew up in Urbana before joining the Army. He served honorably in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 27 years, where he earned numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), the Army Commendation Medal (8th award), and the Air Assault Badge. He was instrumental in the first firing at Ft. McCoy, WI of the Multiple Launch Rocket System.
He married Lori Cox on September 21, 1991. A private pilot, he enjoyed flying and loved his dachshund dogs.
Dean is survived by his wife, his parents, his in-laws Donald and Ruth Ann Cox of Springfield, six sisters and their families.
