Hello. This morning I was reminded that I am probably descended from an Abigail DURANT, b1681 in Billerica, MA. She was the daughter of John DURANT and Susanna DUTTON. There is a page and a half on the DURRANT family in the Genealogy section in the "History of Billerica." I just checked the archives and I'm surprised that I see very few postings on this John DURANT. The paragraph starts out: "DURRANT, 1. John (now commonly DURANT or DUREN) received a grant, 1659, Nov. ..... He m. 1670, Nov. 16, Susan DUTTON, dau. of Thomas, 1, who became his neighbor ... 'John DURRANT, Sen., dyed in prison, at Cambridge.' 1692, Oct. 27. The date suggests Farmer's probate conjecture that the charge against him was witchcraft. CH: John, 2, b. 1674, July 32. Thomas, 3, b. 1674/5, Jan. 7. Abigail, b. 1681, Sept. 24, Mehitable, b. 1687, April 20. ..." I found out last week that the "History of Billerica" - an excellent resource - is now on-line. I don't remember whether it is at Google / Books or at HeritageQuest / Books (available at some libraries). According to researchers, Abigail DURANT / DURRANT, married in Cambridge, MA, in Aug. 1697, to Abraham IRELAND. Abraham was reportedly the son of William IRELAND of early Dorchester, MA. Abraham and Abigal IRELAND seem to have had 8 or 9 children. And, my ancestor was Mary IRELAND, b1707/08. Mary married my ancestor, Thomas HUTCHINSON, in 1725 in Cambridge, MA. There is very little information on-line about this IRELAND family. My main research of 14 years is on the KIDDER name. But, almost as long I've been trying to find out more about my HUTCHINSON line - descended from George HUTCHINSON in 1630 Charlestown, MA, (then Woburn and Winchester, MA). I spent part of my childhood in the HUTCHINSON farmhouse in Winchester, MA. My gr-gr-gr-grandparents were Jacob HUTCHINSON and Eliza CROSBY of Winchester. She was part of the large CROSBY family in Arlington, MA. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I came across the DUREN name this week, and had forgotten about my DURRANT ancestor and its alternate spelling.
