Help with an old post

I need some help with and old post back in 2002. I copied and pasted it in below. At the end of the post the writer (a Mister Bryson Bailey) says the following:

I have much, much more on the DuRants (Durants) as well as on John and Ann Walbank and Henry and Margaret (Mitchell) Cassels. Will be glad to share with you. You can contact me by private e-mail.

Well I don't have his private e-mail and I don't know how to reach him, so I am posting a new one in the hope that he did share this information with someone or will be able to tell me how to contact him.

What I am really after is the information about Henry Cassels and wife Margaret Mitchells and their children and what happened to them after leaving South Carolina.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Dale Castle (Cassels)

Becky,

We are talking about the same Henry DuRant. He served in the Revolutionary War (Accounts Audited 2102, SC Archives) and died in Sumter District, SC on 8 January 1805 (Sumter Co., SC Probate, Bundle 27, Pkg. 17). His wife's name was Sarah, who was also administrator of his estate.

Henry was of the 3rd generation of DuRants in South Carolina and of the 2nd generation born here (The Durants in Berkeley And Craven Counties, Transactions of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina, No. 99, 1994).

The first known ancestor was Henry DuRant who married Ann Walbank (daughter of John and Ann Walbank of Charles Town).
Proof can be found in a Memorial by Henry on 27 June 1711:
"The said Henry DuRant now possessed of a tract of 176
acres, which he holds in right of his wife Ann, being
1/3 part of a tract of 530 acres bequeathed by John
Walbank, late of this Province, deceased, unto his three
daughters, Ann (the now wife of the said Henry DuRant),
......."
(South Carolina Memorials, Vol. II, 1731-1776, by Katie-Prince Ward Esker.) Henry and Ann had six children found in the Annals and Parish Register of St. Thomas and St. Denis:
1. Hannah born 15 Nov. 1712
2. Anna born 18 Sep. 1718
3. John born 27 Aug. 1721
4. Henry born 26 Dec. 1730
5. George born June 1730
6. Jean (Jane) buried 18 Sep. 1716

Henry's son John married Hannah Cassels (daughter of Henry Cassels and Margaret Mitchell) on 6 Feb. 1755 at the church at Winyah, Prince Frederick Parish (Transactions, No. 99 and Howe's History of the Presbyterian Church in SC, page 283).
Many researchers believe that they were married in 1754 (remember the calendar change). John and Hannah had ten children (births taken from the Family Bible):
1. Henry born 5 Feb. 1755 (or 1756, calendar change!)
2. Rebecca born 17 Nov. 1757
3. George born 6 Oct. 1759
4. Margaret born 6 Jan. 1761
5. Elizabeth born 13 Jan. 1763
6. John born 5 Dec. 1764
7. Benjamin born 23 Dec. 1766
8. Paul born 1768
9. Hannah 2 May 1774
10. John born 1 Nov. 1775

Henry by his will of 1805, seems to indicate two marriages. His will states "the personal property, that I have already given to my oldest children....to my wife and younger children...." His oldest three children were John, Patsy (married Mr. Ashmore) and Janet (married Mr. Smith). His younger children were:
1. David (1794-1840) married Matilda Witherspoon.
2. Martha married Walter Ashmore (lived in Greenville)
3. Robert (never married)
4. Elias (1800-1864) married Margaret Selina Alexander)
5. Joseph (d. 1881)
The families of some of the above can be found in Durant-Some Descendants of Henry Durant, Revolutionary Soldier by Dorothy S. Carnes.

I descend from David DuRant who married Matilda Witherspoon. I don't believe you said how you descend from Henry. I am interested in your information regarding Henry's marriage to a Wilson. I have much, much more on the DuRants as well as on John and Ann Walbank and Henry and Margaret (Mitchell) Cassels. Will be glad to share with you. You can contact me by private e-mail.
