Dear Laura Larson, I am working on the Rowzee family, and the date I have for the marriage of Robert Owens and Mary Rowzee is July 2, 1822 in Clark Co. IN. If this date is correct, and this Mary is the daughter of Samuel and Betsy DuPuy Rowzee, she is probably one of their older children. I would very much appreciate any information you may have on the children of Robert Owens and Mary Rowzee, as I have been unable to find anything else on them. Samuel Rowzee was born in Powhatan Co., VA about 1774, son of the Rev. William Rowzee. He was married first to Betsy DuPuy on Apr. 10, 1796 in Woodford Co. KY, then to Mary C. Wooldridge on July 8, 1813 in Henry Co. KY. He was in Henry Co. KY in the 1810 and 1820 censuses, and in Oldham Co. KY (which was formed from Henry, Shelby and Jefferson Cos. in 1823) in 1830, and he died on March 30, 1839. Based on this, I believe that all of Samuel and Betsy’s children were born in Kentucky. As for how the DuPuys came to be in Kentucky, this is documented in the book by Semple “A History of the Rise and Progress of the Baptists in Virginia.” Many members of the DuPuy, Rowzee and Wooldridge families moved from Powhatan Co VA to Kentucky between 1785 and 1805.
