Sarah Dupree married Harbert Smith in Jefferson County, GA on 1 Nov 1809. According to family oral history, the Smiths were from Oglethorpe County. I'm trying to connect Sarah with a Dupree family. Here's what I have heard and/or found. On the 1820 Jefferson County census, Harbert (var. sp.)Smith and Sarah had five sons. A Harod Dupree is nearby. Harbert left Sarah sometime after the birth of their seventh son and ran off with a Cook. (There are two Cook families near them.) Sarah is said to have removed to Talbot County with the boys after she drew a land lot there. Harod Dupree appears in Talbot in 1830. In 1830, the census index lists 20 Dupree families in GA, but none in Oglethorpe or Jefferson. In Talbot County are: Herod Dupree John Dupree Thomas R. Dupree William N. Dupree In 1840, there are 21 Dupree families in GA, none in Talbot, Jefferson, or Ogelthorpe. In Sumter County, GA are: Harrod J. Dupree John Dupree Thomas R. Dupree William N. Dupree Arthur J. Dupree Hilliard J. Dupree James Dupree The first four appear to be the same families who were in Talbot in 1830. In 1850, there are 33 Dupree families in GA. Thomas R. went back to Talbot where there's also a Nancy Dupree. William N. is in Houston Co. In Sumter are: Benjamin H. Dupree H.J. Dupree Hirod J. Dupree James Dupree John Dupree Simeon Dupree My gg-grandfather, Thomas H. Smith, who was a son of Harbert (Hobard) Smith and Sarah Dupree is also listed in a separate household with his family in the 1850 Sumter County, GA census. Can anyone help me connect these Duprees with each other and Sarah? Notify Administrator about this message?
