I am familiar with the church record to which you are referring: it is the baptismal record for Merante Dupont from St Paul's Church in Mansura. I live near there and examined the record myself. It seems that the translator has made a grave error. The entry reads Marie Rose Neucere. I cannot understand how she got "woman of color" from what is written. Yes, there are a number of spellings for Neucere. You must remember that most people were illiterate at that time; the priest simply wrote what he thought was the correct spelling. There are a number of Neucere families in Avoyelles Parish at this time. I have spoken to one of Marie Rose's cousins and there was no mention of Indian blood.

I did not understand what you wrote about the registry for Indians. Is she listed?
