John,
My name's Josh Behn, and I'm a distant cousin, through your Great Grandparents (I believe), Thomas and Mary Ann Furlong Dunphy.Your Grandfather, John was the only child who stayed, and eventually took over the blacksmith shop. The rest (Mary, Sarah, Annie, and Bridget) all emmigrated to Massachusetts.Mary was my Great Great Grandmother, and moved to Kilcormick parish where she met and Married James Doyle. They emmigrated in 1873, and settled in Quincy, Massachusetts where my family lived up until my mother left the area.Interestingly enough, Mary's son, William James (my great-grandfather) also became a blacksmith.I believe he was apprenticed to his Uncle, Thomas (One of John's sons, who also ended up emmigrating in the 1890s, to Everett Massachusetts).
Do you have any information on the family before THomas and Mary Ann?Where they came from? From the parish registers in town it sort of indicates that the family wasn't originally from Newbawn.I also could not find a Dunphy grave in any of the cemeteries.Tom, whom I met when I visited Newbawn, showed me the old Smithy (now the G.A.A. locker room) and where the home used to be located (across the street on the NE corner of Newbawn Castle). He told me that they were buried in the old cemetery on the site of the original church (where only the cistern remains) down the dirt road to Newbawn manor, and that someone in the family had had Thomas and Mary Anne's headstone removed and replaced with other family members.I have an old portrait of Mary Anne, that I would love to share with you and the family.I also have a photograph of Sarah (John's sister).Unfortunately I have been unable to locate any other family photographs.Do you know if any exist? Is there a photography of John?
WOuld love to correspond with you!

Regards,
Josh Behn
