Nelson and his wife Lucinda Payne (daughter of Chesley Payne (and wife Betsey). You are descended from John L. Nelson's son Matthew M. Nelson, while I am descended from the daughter Mary Nelson, wife of Alexander L. White. Thanks to our several common ancestors, we are cousins in multiple ways, the two closest being fourth cousins (once removed) and fifth cousins. Is it safe to assume you are familiar with your descent from James Pratt and wife Rebecca Cunningham (daughter of Andrew), Thomas W. Baker and wife Easter McMillan (daughter of John McMillan and his wife Jean), and Jacob Reed and wife Esther Hollis?
