Well, she's not Native American. What was your grandfather's name (and his sister's)?

You are I are lots of kin -- and possibly in lots of ways, depending on which of Sarah's kids is your line of descent. Sarah and her husband are both buried in the cemetery at New Hopewell Baptist Church in the Kimberlin Heights community of Knox County. Jonathan Finger’s stone shows 18 Jun 1816 – 3 Mar 1853. He was a son of Henry Finger and Mary/Maria Magdalena Houser. Henry Finger’s kids are laid out in Knox County Chancery Court Docket #2281 – as part of the Houser estate settlement.

Now, Richard Dunn, in an 1842 Deed Of Gift [Knox Co. TN Deed Book T2, p234], gave two parcels of land to "Jonathan Finger his son in law," thereby confirming that Sarah/Sally Dunn, Jonathan's wife, was Richard Dunn’s daughter. She is the only one of Richard Dunn’s children fully proved by the records. I am descended from another of the children, Elijah Dunn (8 Apr 1820 – 7 Feb 1893, New Hopewell). Another of the kids, Lucy Dunn (1816 – 10 Jun 1874, New Hopewell) was the wife of Drury Julian. Martha Dunn (18 Jun 1827 – 30 May 1906, New Hopewell) was also a daughter. She married James H. Rowland, brother of the Eliza Jane Rowland who was my Elijah Dunn’s first wife.

The history of New Hopewell claims that Richard Dunn is also buried there -- and that he actually gave the land for the cemetery to the church. I have not been able to confirm either of suggestions. I do know the 30 Dec 1812 marriage between Richard Dunn and Polly Lambert is preserved in Lunenburg Co. VA.

Richard4 Dunn was a great grandson of the well known William1 Dunn (wife Alice) who died in 1732 in Essex Co. VA. Richard was the son of Nathaniel3 Dunn and the grandson of Thomas2 Dunn and his wife Elizabeth Gray. This should give you a pretty good starting point. --Carl
