George Owen Dunn Obit
LADY LAKE, Fla. — George Owen Dunn, age 98, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Onsted, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at the home of his daughter, Sally Ziegler in Chico, Calif.
Owen was born on April 14, 1909, in North Concord, Mich., the son of George W. and Mae (Southwell) Dunn. He graduated from Parma High School in 1928. Owen married Alza L. Peckham on Aug. 30, 1933, in Parma. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1989. He graduated from Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science in 1935. Owen operated the Dunn Funeral Home in Onsted from 1937 until his retirement in 1974. After retiring he wintered in Florida until 1985 when he became a permanent resident.
Owen was very active in the Onsted Community, serving as former Village President, former Fire Chief, Life member and former secretary of Onsted Masonic Lodge, #407, Past President 2nd District Michigan Funeral Directors Association, Life member Eastern Star in Onsted, Former member of the Onsted Kiwanis Club and the Onsted Investment Club, Member of the golf Hammock Country Club in Florida and a member of AARP and MEA. He attended St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Onsted.
Surviving are two children, Douglas (Carole) Dunn of Lady Lake, Fla., and Sally Ziegler of Chico, Calif.; five grandchildren, Sandra (Greg) Lewis of Tecumseh, Sherie (Rick) Duttenhofer of Jupiter, Fla., Bradley Dunn of Westminster, Calif., David Ziegler of Chico, Calif., and Kathy (Chris) Stebbins of Mosses Lake, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; one sister. Phyllis Herriff of Mason, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Private Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Chapel Cemetery in Parma, Mich. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted.
