Karen,
We are distant cousins. My direct line goes back to John W. Dunn who married Susan Porter.I have been working on this family line for over five years now.
John was born in Kentucky. His father was born in N.C.In the 1860 census (just before the Civil War)John and Susan were living in the Paris Post Office Area, Lafayette County, Mississippi. There is a cluster of Dunns there that came from N.C.I have a stack of papers about Dunns, but cannot make a positive connection to his family. It's a brick wall for now.
Susan Porter Dunn's parents were James and Ketura(h) Porter. Keturah was a Collins.I have the family line for both of them if you wish.I have James Porter's will, also.
John and Susan Dunn's two oldest sons joined the CSA. The first one went thru the complete war.The second one died one year after joining (age 16).
John and Susan Dunn went to Tenn. The 1870 census has them in Gibson County, Tenn.Their youngest son, my great grand-father, was Tom Dunn who married Tennessee Freeze.Their son, Walter Dunn married Alice Dunlap.Walter and Alice Dunn had two sons, Lee Allen Dunn and Lawton Ross Dunn.By this time, they are in Obion County (Mason Hall Town), Tenn.My father was Lawton Ross Dunn.
