Have you checked in or about Lawrence County, Ohio? Our branch of the family originated there.
My web site is as http://www.lindajdunn.com/genealogy/dunn.htmlhttp://www.lindajdunn.com/genealogy/dunn.html
and contains all the information I have about this branch of the family.
This particular branch of the family is my husband's side and most of my information was obtained from one of his cousins.
I note that John D. Dunn had a daughter, Mary.It is not, unfortunately, an uncommon name.
I quote from an online posting regarding the history of another branch of the Dunn tree:
George W. DUNN was born in Lawrence county, Ohio, on October 9,
1857, and was of Irish extraction, but with goodly mixture of
Americans in his line for several generations. His grandfather,
Armstrong DUNN, was a farmer of Lawrence county, Ohio, for many
years, but had previously been a musician on board of one of the
steamers plying the Ohio river. The later part of his life,
however, was passed in Hamilton county, Indiana, as a minister
in the Baptist church.
Given that our Armstrong Dunn was a minister in a Baptist church in Hamilton County, Indiana, I'd say there's a fair chance that we may have ancestors in common.
