Sandra,
Thanks for posting your note. It's fascinating.I have been researching the Dunn name in the South Central PA, Western MD and Northern Neck of VA for about 5 years.Of course that's nothing near as long as some others and I don't claim to be an expert.I don't know if my ancestors are related to the many Dunns I've researched but it is a possibility so my work goes on.First let me say that you've clearly done some excellent ground breaking work on the Dunns in Wythe Co.I've NEVER come across anything on the Wythe Co Dunns that suggested they came out of PA.So, that's genuinely new.I know there are several folks out there who've been trying to break the code on the SW VA Dunns and you've obviously done some excellent work--congratulations.Second, I've often wondered if there were some connection between the 18th Century Dunns of Northern VA (Frederick, Loudoun and Berkeley Cos) and those in Wythe Co.Part of my curiousity is that some of the families that ended up in Warren Co, KY came from the Wythe and neighboring (Montgomery?) Co areas.Warren Co, KY is one of the last known places for my ancestors.Third, the name Thomas Dunn is familiar to me from my 18th century research.I hadn't understood that he was the first Dunn head of household into Wythe Co.The name Thomas Dunn occurs in the 18th Century in Frederick Co, VA.I've also come accross the name in a 1748 church letter from the Connococheague Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church to the Piscataway NJ Seventh Day Baptist Church. The Baptist Church of Connococheague was a church that met in members homes in the area of what is now Southern Franklin Co, PA.This church included several members of families that had been Quakers.I would assume that some of the families that you mentioned being affiliated with the Dunns back in PA were Quaker or had been Quaker families.I would also imagine that the Dunns you researched in Chester Co, PA were Quakers.
I would be very interested to know if the Dunns your descended from in Wythe Co were Baptists.
I'm out of town at the moment and am providing you what I know from memory.I would like to correspond with you in the future to discuss this in more detail.I've been trying to sort out the origins of all of the Dunns who lived in these areas in the 18th Century and catalogue them.I really think you're on to something because it appears to fit a pattern of migration for some Dunns that I had long suspected.
Thanks!
Tim Dunn
