i have recently started to research my paternal grandmother; i've only recently (today!) found this site so i apologize if i'm repeating old news. my grandmother, mary catherine dunleavy reilly davis was born on 4/4/1880 in ballina, county mayo. she was the yougest child of christopher dunleavy dob (2/18/1835 - county sligo and (mary) catherine flynn (no dob known). the family lived on john street, in ballina, having moved earlier from hill street. her siblings were:joseph-3/25/1863, agnes 10/2/1864, james and mary jane 6/10/1867, charles 1/6/1869, christopher j. jr 2/5/1872 and patrick leo 3/5/1876. i know that two of her dad's brothers were named frank and patrick and in 1858 was employed at the estate of viscount palmerson (is identified as a servent, car driver and post car owner). i know that his grandmother was a bridget dunleavy, who died in 1884. i know that in 1888 my grandmother, her father and 2 youngest brothers left on the city of richmond, at queenstown, cobh, for new york. they arrived in sept 1888 and travled to lackawanna county, jermyn, specifically. over the next 16 yrs. while they continued to live in lackawanna they moved to the mayfield borough. i have reason to believe that her mother also came with them, as she is buried in the catholic cemetary in archbald in 1896 but i can't find her on the passenger list nor do i know where she was born, when or when she married christopher. christopher dunleavy died in 1906 and is burined in the same cemetary; the brother, christopher, died in 1905 and is also buried there. patrick "leo" not only seemed to be the source of my father's tenor voice, but also seems to be the "black sheep" of the family! he married grace mccabe, in 1900, in lackawanna but by 1910 i can't find any significant trace of him. there is a thought that the two had a child and were then divorced. in an attempt to remarry in the church, and not having had any word from him in awhile, grace had leo declared dead. i understand that my father met him, once, in the 1940's at bellview hospital in new york. so much for a declaration of death! agnes dunleavy married a thomas dunleavy in 1889, in lackawanna county and they had two children that i know of: christopher (1891) and charles (1896). christopher died in 1896 and is buried in the same cemetary as other family members, st. thomas acquinas, in archbald. it sounds like i have a great deal of information, and i'm glad for what i have but i've hit a wall. i can't find anything about my g-grandmother or the life of my g-grandparents, and the children that i can't find as coming to america? any information anyone has would be so greatly appreciated. likewise if any data i have that might be helpful to others will be gladly shared. thanks kathi
