I have looked into this Charles Dunlap as a possible relation to my earliest confirmed Dunlap ancestor - James Dunlap. James Dunlap was born in the 1780's and lived most of his life in Frederick County, MD where he died in 1846. The reason I think there may be a connection is that one of James' sons, Worthington, married a Susan E. Byerly in Frederick County in 1852. It would seem an unlikely coincedence that two seperate Dunlap families would marry women with the same uncommon name of Byerly. However, I have been unable to confirm any relationship between Charles and James. Another son of James, my GG-Grandfather John, married Susannah Ramsburg in 1841. The Ramsburgs and Byerly's were very prominent in the Frederick County, MD area. James and Susannah had a son named Charles (b1855), my G-Grandfather. The John Dunlap family later moved to Steuban County, IN before 1860. Question for Virginia - has your research into Charles Dunlap indicated any connection to the James Dunlap family of Frederick County, MD? I would appreciate any information you might have.
