DUNHAM aka SINGLETARY

I'm confused. Your first message said your grandfather Samuel DUNHAM married Hannah GILBERT, but then you said Samuel DUNHAM m. ca. 1773 Hannah RUBLE. Was GILBERT an error? Did you mean 5g-grandfather rather than grandfather Samuel DUNHAM m. Hannah RUBLE?

We do not know why Jonathan SINGLETARY, son of Richard SINGLETARY of Haverhill, MA, used the surname DUNHAM, but it's well documented. One reference is an Essex Co., NJ, deed of 16 Apr. 1702.
