The immigrant was not Sir John DUNHAM. He was later known as Deacon John DUNHAM (ca. 1588 - Mar. 1668/9, Plymouth). The most reliable information so far is that he was son of Richard DUNHAM, poulter, who was buried 19 Nov. 1624, Langford, Bedfordshire. Richard's will gave to son John "upon his return." John DUNHAM m1. 17 Aug. 1612, Clophill, Bedfordshire, Susanna KAINO/KEYNOE, daughter of Thomas, who d. before 7 May 1612, leaving widow Joanne. John DUNHAM's first child was John, bpt. 19 Feb. 1614/5, Henlow, BEDFORDSHIRE, who left a will dated 2 Feb. 1691, pr. 1692, Plymouth. John DUNHAM was called widower of Susanna when he married in Leyden, 22 Oct. 1622, Abigail BAILLIOU. The original handwriting of Susanna's name is shown in Leyden Documents Relating to the Pilgrims, but the surname is difficult to read.
If you have any living male relatives with the surname DUNHAM, you can answer the question of whether your line is from Jonathan SINGLETARY or from John DUNHAM of Plymouth through the DNA project.
