I waited to see if someone more expert than I would offer some help, but maybe I can get you started.
I suggest you obtain a map of the Ontario area where you believe your ancestors lived. The map should show the names of towns, county boundaries, rivers, bays and any other geographic features.Familiarize yourself with the names of towns near any town where your ancestors lived, and the name of the county so you will recognize them if you are reading materials you have found on the internet. If you don?t have a map, or easy access to one, there are maps on the internet.A start might the Ontario Highway map.http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/map/http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/map/
Many other maps of Canada are athttp://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/canada.htmlhttp://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/canada.html
Write down the names of the ancestors you know about and, for each one, write any dates you know concerning significant events in their life (birth, death, marriage, etc.).Include the names of spouses, towns in which they lived and children.
Go to the webpage I have listed below. It has many links to search and may yield some direct information, or some links to other sources. It should keep you busy for a while. If you download or copy materials you find on the internet, keep a record of the web address (URL) so you can find it again or refer someone else to it.If you find material about a relative, copy or record the source of the information (Obituary, Marriage notice, etc.) so you have some backup in case you later find conflicting information and wish to compare references. Some researchers have found that certain references are unreliable. This source has interesting material that should be of interest to your daughter.

If you have not tried the Church of Latter Day Saints records, go to
http://www.familysearch.org/http://www.familysearch.org/
They have a surname search feature that may be useful. They have many records available and, if you live where they have a resource center, materials can be viewed in various forms such as microfilm, CD, etc.
Have a way to file information so you can find it again. It can be on a computer or some other system--maybe both as you aquire documents, maps, etc.
A computer genealogy program may help you file information. It also will allow you to send and receive genealogical records. The different programs have a universal file system (.ged) that allows you to send family tree information to someone else and, if you receive a .ged file, your program can convert it to be displayed in your program.
Good Luck
