RichardI hope you are still lurking, I have questions.
In your posting you mention, ""Ephraim Dunham, tsp. East Gwillimbury, etc., 1st son of John Dunham and Martha his wife, of the Bay of Quinte, etc, was born 30-8-1777; married to Patience Cace, Co. Dutchess, New York, being the 5th dau. of Nathan Cace and Elizabeth his wife, 10-3-1799; her birth being 25-4-1779."
Have you been able to determine Ephraim's mother's surname?
I ask for two-fold reasons.
One, my 4th great grandmother was a Martha Dunham who married to Seneca Rider in 1815 in Adolphustown. We're not sure of her parentage but know she was born in Dutchess County, NY. Two of their sons were named John Dunham and Job Dunham. I know in that time period the only Dunham in Adolphustown that is recorded in a John and Martha Dunham who came from Dutchess and were Quaker. (I have copies of from church records of letters of release/acceptance as they moved from meeting to meeting up till when they moved on to York/Yonge St.) But nothing other than location possibly connecting them.
Second reason, one of grandpa Seneca's aunts was a Martha Rider. We know by her father's will that she married a Dunham. (Also Dutchess Co NY.) Just the other day, a new found cousin of mine did some legwork for me at the Library of Congress. Our distant cousin (born in 1860s) who was an early genealogist gave his papers/manuscripts to the LOC. From one manuscript of his notes on the Rider Ryder families, he typed a line of info without much explaination.
"Martha Dunham, daughter, m. John; children Isaac, Benj. Saml. Wm. Mary, Rachel, went to Canada."
I don't know if he left more clues or info amongst the boxes making up his manuscript collection in the manuscripts dept. (were these all the kids or just who he knew, did he know where exactly they went, etc.) I just received the copies in the mail, no notes from my cousin if she got to look at the boxes of his manuscript collection yet.
Were there any other Dunhams mentioned in that "Records of Families of Early Friends who Settled on Yonge Street, Canada"?
Looking forward to hearing from you or anyone with some clues/answers.
Lisa
