Sue,
I have copies of some correspondence from a couple of years ago that may help you. The correspondence refers to an old letter that refers to an old Bible. I do not have a photocopy of the old letter, but I will type the contents of it here since it was typed in in the correspondence.
The letter starts:
Temperance, Ky.
Oct. 7/95
J. B. Barnett, Esq
Humansville, Mo.
Dear Sir and Bro,
Yours of the 3rd came to hand in due time and found us as well as usual. We were glad to hear that you had a pleasant and safe journey home and that you found all well. I would have liked to have seen Mary when she met Mr. Anderson. When we returned from James Stubblefields we found that you had left your vest. I have sent it by mail and hope that it will go safely.
Jack frost bit Tobacco Sorghum-[I think] and late corn the night you left.
We haven't had time to do anything to those three graves yet. I have been to T. S. Donham's [could be J. S. Donham] and reviewed the record in that old Bible but failed to find it as complete as I had hoped or as you had expected. I will continue to look after this matter and will now give you the record at T. S. D. [must mean T. S. Donham's]
Dennis Dunham born Jan. 16, 1751 he married Dollie Phillips. She was born May 27, 1747. This couple had ten children.
Named:
1. John
2. Timothy
3. Sallie
4. Mary & 5. Jonathan-shows together as twins
6. Hannah
7. Effie
8. Dollie
9. Phoebe
10. Dennis, Jr.
& John was the father of John S. Dunham
Sallie married Zach Morris
Dollie married James Skaggs [can't read this part very good] Be Miller. I don't understand that.
Dennis Jr. married Pollie Hudspeth
Hannah married Daniel Skaggs. She was born March 24, 1782. So you will see from this, that Dennis Dunham, Sr. was our great great grandfather and that Dennis Dunham, Jr. was only a brother to our great, great grandmother Hannah Skaggs. I was unable to learn anything more of Grandmother Dollie Phillips or Pollie Hudspeth nor who was the father of Daniel Skaggs or the name of the great grandfather Barnett, but will see after this matter and will notify you if I find anything of interest when you meet any of my relations or friends, if they inquire after me, tell them that I would love to see them and hope that we will meet again. Give our love to all. Let us hear from you when it is convenient.
Affectionately Yours,
T. E. Morris [could be J. E.]
end of letter.
I would suggest you contact Barbara Mansfield Brown if you have any questions about the letter. She may have a copy of it. I think she has a web site out there somewhere. Hope this helps.
Victor Donham
