Below is verbatim of the response she received: "Ancestry of Jeremy Clarke of Rhode Island and Dungan Genealogy complied by Alfred Rudulph Justice (Franklin Printing Company, Philadelphia c. 1917) includes only one HENDRY entry. On page 485 is lists a Margaret HENDRIE b. 14 Jul 1898 who married an Albert R. WORTHINGTON. On page 160 we find: [bracket notations are of Stacy Wood who did the look up] "120. Jeremiah Dungan, 34 [# assigned to father], son of Clement and Eleanor (Craven) Dungan, b. circa 1740, d. 1809. m. by license dated Nov. 24, 1762, Mary Whitton b. 1740, d. July 21, 1793. (Tombstone at Southampton) daughter of Thomas and Mary ( ) Whitton. Nov. 9, 1766 Jeremiah Dungan, Jr. was baptized, and Sept. 6, 1766 his wife Mary was baptized. (27) [Southampton, Pa., Baptist Church] The Will of Jeremiah Dungan, of Northampton, Bucks County, Pa., dated Dec. 8 1808, pr. Nov. 15, 1809, "advanced in years," mentions son Joshua, daughters: Elizabeth Dyer, Eleanor Marpole, Mary Kirk and Nancy Dungan; granddaughter Nancy Cummings; Edward Dyer to be her guardian during minority. Executors: sons-in-law Cornelius Dungan, Edward Dyer and Abel Marple. [sic] Issue: (227-279) Joshua, Mary, Eleanor, Elizabeth, Ann or Nancy, Agnes and Esther." >From this I have to consider that this Jeremiah is not our Jeremiah (parents are different). If this is so then our Jeremiah did not marry twice and all the children of our Jeremiah had the same mother, Mary/Rebecca Hendry. What seems odd to me is the wide range of birth dates between the last three children but then there could have been problems with the Civil War and/or increasing ages of the parents. Anyones guess. Pauline was thorough in providing documentation on our Jeremiah and his parents. Reference William and Mary Quarterly Series II, Vol. II, pge 325-329 and on page 327 is stated that Deborah Borden, died 1799, m. George Hendry, died 1782. Their sixth child Rebecca Hendry (date of birth unknown but evidently born in Frederick Co., Va.) m. Jeremiah Dungan, son of George and Mary (Hellings) Dungan. Also, the childrens names are different from what we have for "our" Jeremiah further confirming there were two Jeremiahs. As to the date of our Jeremiah's birth 1730 versus 1738 I don't know where I got my date. Probably just an error on my behalf. I do not have a source documented. As to the marriage of a Jeremiah Dungan (b. 1721) to an Ann Whitton on Jan 22 1746/47 this is the first I've heard of this. Are there now three Jeremiahs? I do not have a full line of data on the Whittons so cannot compare notes. Okay? We need more research on all this. Let me know what you think. I've sent a copy of this to Pauline for her records.
