Karen: I thought I had an answer for you about Lucinda but, alas, the dates don't match. The mother of the African-American painter, Robert S. Duncanson (1821-1872) was Lucy. But his biography lists her dates as 'c.1782-1854'. Her husband, John Dean Duncanson, whose father Charles was a former slave in Virginia freed at the time of the Revolution,was born in New York and he brought Lucy up from slavery in Virginia to be his wife.
