My research shows the first two Dunbars in North America were Robert Dunbar who landed in Massachusetts, and John Dunbar who landed in Virginia(and eventually moved to Massachusetts). That was in the mid 1600's, about 30 years after the Mayflower landed. Neither of them were Peers, and to my knowldege no "Lord" or "Lady" Dunbar ever came to America. There are some Gilmore's and Gilham's in Robert's line, but no Gilman's. Perhaps you are from John's line.
