Charles,
I too am a Dunaway and I know how difficult it is tracing lines. A couple of things you might try is going to the county/town courthouse and look thru old records. Another thing is, if you know where they are buried, try the cemetery records or funeral home. You might also try the library and look for books on Early Settlers. I have been able to find my gg grandparents that way. You mentioned that Rufus is your grandfather, but by the dates, he may be your great grandfather instead. Hope this helps and good luck on your hunting, but don't give up.
