I believe I have found your James Dunaway living in Arkansas, Christian Township, Independence County. They were on the June, 1880 Census. Listed in their household were
James, 28, b. Indiana
Minerva, 23, b. Tennessee
Franklin, 5, b. Illinois
Ida or Ada J., 3, b. Illinois
Nettie, 2, b. Arkansas (looks like originally Illinois with Arkansas written over it)
Georgia, 3/12, b. Arkansas
Living next door to them was who I believe is James' brother, John H. Dunaway. This would be my great, great grandfather. Living in his household are:
John H. Dunaway, 33, b. Indiana
Caroline, 39, b. Illionis
John, 11, b. Illinois
Nora V., 9, b. Illinois (my g. grandmother)
Rachel, 4, b. Illionis
Malinda, 1, b. Arkansas
(This family also had two daughters - Rose and Jane - I am not sure if this is middle names of Rachel and Malinda above or different children).
Also living next door to James and John was who I believe was their father, John Dunaway.
Listed in this household were:
John Dunaway, 65, b. Indiana
Martha, 43, b. Illinois
Sang N. Lee, 15, cousin, b. Illinois
Sallie Soribuen (last name VERY hard to read, 18, cousin, b. Missouri.
I would like to find this family on the 1870 Census and need the name of the County they may have lived in Illinois. I assume they were in Illinois, but the Arkansas Archives does not have an index to the 1870 Illinois census and I would have to look through the entire state to find them. I would also like to find out what the maiden name of Caroline (who married John H.) is. Any help anyone can give me with this family would be very much appreciated.
