"Your Mary E. is a sister to my GGrandfather John W. Dunaway,b.July 18, 1863 was married to Artimissa Martin on Oct 25, 1885 in Hall Co., Ga. John and Mary's parents were William F. (b.1826, Walton Co., Ga.) and Nellie Jane Dunaway(b. about 1826 in Ga.)(I don't have a maiden name for Nellie Jane). William's parents were JONATHAN W. DUNNAWAY(b. c. 1795 Ga., d. c. 1865 Forsyth Co., Ga.) and ELIZABETH DENNIS(b.c. 1800 S.C., d. c. 1875, probably Forsyth Co., Ga.). According to what John W. told my father (John's grandson) William left for the war and never returned. I have not been able to determine which co. he joined. There were a number of Williams that served from Ga. John W. had a son named Truman Frank b. June 1895 in Forsyth Co., Ga. There was also a Truman Frank born to John J. and Luniska Susan Goolsby Dunaway in c. 1855. John J. was a brother to William F. Dunaway.
I hope this was helpful to you in your search. There are not many Dunaways. My father said his Grandfather John W. told him that his ancestor and a brother stowed away on a ship when they were 12 and 14 years of age and were not discovered until it was too late to turn around. He said they came from England. (I don't know about this.)"

I have found a marriage record for them in Warren Co., GA, in 1807.They would have been too young to marry if they were born in 1795 and 1800.
I have been able to trace a John and Elizabeth in the census records from 1830 to 1870.Dian's birth dates seem to be right, but, it is a John, not a Jonathan, in the census records.

Fincher's bith and death dates/places are different from Burt's.
Which is correct? Both state different children, too.
Burt says that William F. and John J. were two sons.
Fincher says children were Catherine, Melinda, Richmond, George, Dennis, William.
