I have a real mystery going here.
My greatgrandfather John Henry Freeman was born 5 May 1842.
I will begin by saying that my grandfather said that his father John Henry Freeman had a brother named Jack and that they had run a saloon together in Arkansas.
My father said that he had been told by his grandmother that his grandfather John Henry Freeman had changed his name when he was a young man.
There is absolutely no record on John Henry Freeman earlier than 2 Nov 1884 when he married Ellen Eastwood in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, Missouri. John Henry Freeman was 42 years old at that time.
I have submited my DNA to Family Tree DNA on the 67 marker test. I matched a man who's surname is Dunaway 66 out of the 67 markers. I was told by the president of Family Tree DNA that this Dunaway man and I definately share a common ancestor. The probability is 100% within the last 18 generations.
I have found a John Wesley Dunaway born about 1842 in Madison County, Arkansas with a brother named Andrew JACKSON Dunaway that is one year younger.
There seems to be absolutely no record of this John Wesley Dunaway after 1860. It has been claimed by some, but without any proof, that he died in the Civil War.
I have sent for his Ciliv War records. If his birthdate matches that of John Henry Freeman then I have found my greatgrandfather.
