MEREDOSIA - Vernon E. Dunaway Sr., 84, of Meredosia died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at his home. He was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Naples, the son of Thomas W. and Lela Bentley Dunnaway. Two sons, James Everett and David Wayne Dunaway, preceded him in death. Mr. Dunaway was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific, and earned two Bronze Star Medals. He retired from Oscar Mayer in Beardstown and was a security guard for Initial Security. He was a member of Meredosia Church of Christ. Survivors: four sons, Eddie (wife, Susan) Dunnaway and Vernon (wife, Peggy) Dunaway Jr., both of Meredosia, Keney Dunnaway of Glendale, Ariz., and Tom (wife, Jean) Dunaway of Hannibal, Mo.; five daughters, Cynda Bogue of Bluffs, Benny (husband, Wayne) Stinson of Versailles, Candy Davidson (companion, Pat White) and Tina (husband, Bob) Kaptena, both of Jacksonville, and Jeannie Schwalb of Meredosia; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Myrtle Flynn of Lake Wills, Fla., and Virginia Hartman of Jacksonville. Private graveside services: Oakland Cemetery, Meredosia. Schaefer-Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia is in charge of arrangements. Notify Administrator about this message?
