the name "Dumford" is a derivative of the word "Dunn" becoming "Dum" over time...two nns =one m....first remember that William Shakespeare spelled his name nearly 50 ways during his life...and remember "ford" is a river crossing...a "Dunn or Dum" was the wordfor "Hill"......just search Dunpeldyr or pretty much any castle...it means the Hill near the river crossing...it was advantageous militarily to be located on a hill..and if they drowned all the better...anyway it'sa place name.....
