Thomas Dulany
For years I have called Thomas Dulany's home Joppatowne, Baltimore County, Colonial Maryland. Recently I decided to investigate further. There is a Joppa in Baltimore county, so I just assumed it was a modern day name for Joppatowne, it's common for cities to drop Town or City (ie Baltimore City became Baltimore).
Much to my surprise, I found that Joppatowne is a different place. The old Ghost Town resides in Harford County. It has been abandoned for years and all that is left is a few derelict wooden buildings and a few old headstones. The remainder of the old town was leveled except those aforementioned remains. It was wiped out by a Hurricane in the 70's. So there you have it, Joppatowne, Harford County, Colonial Maryland. Don't forget to change his children Elizabeth, Dennis and John's birthplace also.
Also, if you are of Daniel, the Elder's line, look up Welbourne Farm, a Bed & Breakfast. It was Welbourne Farm & Plantation, the Dulany's of Loudoun County, Virginia home. I have visited it and it's the real deal, still in the family and a working farm near Upperville, VA. The Dulany graveyard at Old Welbourne (actually newer than Welbourne)is close to the original ruins of the first Dulany/DeButts families. Welbourne contains the original portraits of the family, there is a book about Welbourne, however it is out of print. I was able to get a copy and found the autobiography of the 3 Dulany's who arrived at Port Tobacco, Charles County, Colonial Maryland by Aubry C. Land (also long out of print).
